Biogas Grid Supply Gaining Ground in Europe

biogaspartner logoLaunched in 2008, the project was founded by the biogas partners of the Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena), the German Energy Agency. Since then the project has gone on to enjoy international success. The “biogas partnership” is a platform set up to support the supply of biogas into the natural gas network. Companies from the Netherlands, Luxembourg and the United Kindgom have since joined the partnership which has grown in significance at the European level.

The “biogas partnership” was developed by dena in collaboration with partners from agriculture and the energy sector. The project aims to bring the market players involved in the entire biogas supply value chain together and to support them in their marketing activities. dena fulfils the role of the neutral moderator and provides a platform for the acquisition and processing of information as well as circulating it at national and international level.

“The biogas partnership’s areas of activity focus on transparency, acceptance and cooperation“, explains Claudia Vogel, Head of the Renewable Energies division at dena. “It gives interested parties from agriculture, the energy industry, logistics, systems engineering, trade and finance the opportunity to find out about political and legal framework conditions and provides them with information about international biogas supply projects.”

Furthermore, the intention is to dispel the reservations still held by many people in connection with biogas. dena provides information about the benefits of using biogas for the future supply of energy and supports the interaction of partners from a variety of different areas in order to elevate the biogas grid supply to a position from which it is well regarded in a political context as well as in the eyes of the general public.

“In order to achieve our aims, we organise a biogas partners’ conference twice a year, which has also taken on an international dimension. Furthermore our website www.biogaspartner.com is available in two languages“, says Claudia Vogel.

Companies in the network benefit from publications and a German and English newsletter as well as from discussions with work groups in which the newest developments on the biogas market are discussed. As Germany is taking on a pioneering role in the development of the biogas market within Europe, growth in this area is a matter of public interest in Germany as well as abroad.

“We expect the project to become increasingly international”, concluded Claudia Vogel. “International developments and new business models are constantly gaining in importance in the bio methane trade.”
